Transkills: supporting transition to University

Since supervisions are more frequent in Linguistics Part I than in MML Part I, essays need not be as long or as detailed. 1,000-1,500 words are enough, rather than the 2,000 words that MML students will sometimes write. An essay in Linguistics should make reference to 3-4 scholarly works in its bibliography, and referencing should be Harvard-style rather than in footnotes (see the separate section on referencing).

Linguistics essays should also make reference to linguistic examples and data.
